Women's Social Ride Bacos, November

Come join our cruisy Friday night ride at the Bacos, Walmer Forest Reserve on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. Meet at the Corners of Daws and Dalton Rds for a 6 pm start. We are mixing things up this month and having an approx 1.5 - 2 hr ride  with the option of joining for a social catch up afterwards at the Bridge Hotel. Please indicate if you would like to join and we will book a table. Riders from beginners+ welcome. Teen girls and women of all ages encouraged to participate. All riders must be self-sufficient with food, water and spares. You must have a well maintained mountain bike and well fitted helmet that meets Australian standards. A Rocky Riders (or other AusCycling) membership is recommended so you are covered by insurance while riding. Riders without an Auscycling membership, do so at their own discretion. If you are not in a position to sign up for a full membership the AusCycling 4 Week Free Trial could be an alternative option to cover you or a monthly membership. The popular Dirt Crits mountain biking series hosted by the Castlemaine Rocky Riders returns for season 2022/23 on Thursday evenings commencing 3 November. Once again the Crits will feature separate categories (and an earlier start time) for junior riders (3-14 years of age), and we encourage any young riders with a suitable bike, a helmet and a sense of adventure to participate. The DirtCubs (ages 3-7) circuit is a 700 m loop, while DirtMasters (ages 8-14) will race over a more varied 1.4 km circuit; both tracks can be safely navigated by riders of all abilities. Racing will kick off at 5:45pm and finishing by 6:15pm. There is no cost for the event, however gold coin donations will be gratefully received. Location We will be back at the White Hills tracks where we were in the past. Registration Please register for each individual race before Wednesday 5pm This will make it easier for us to get the race started. Note that a valid Auscycling licence is required. Castlemaine Rocky Riders are offering a make up MTB skills sessions to those junior riders who missed out on the session that was cancelled twice due to weather. We have a limited number of tickets due to coach availability. It's a "first in best dressed" scenario. Registrations close tomorrow at 3pm (Saturday 29th). The session will focus on the fundamental skills of mountain biking including:  - Operation of controls (brakes & gears/cadence) - Terrain Awareness * Specific skills taught will be based on assessments done by individual coaches on the day and dependant on the ability/skill level of the riders in each group.    The session will be run on Sunday 30th October at "The Baco trails" Walmer State Forest in Castlemaine.  Starting at 10:30am. Finishing at 11:30am. Meet at the Dalton/Daws Rd Carpark (up from the Pony Club towards Muckleford). Prior to the skills session we have "Come and try" MTBing event at 9am, which we encourage you and your children to participate in: please register seperately for this here.    NB: All Instructors are AusCycling Development Mountain Bike Instructors (PMBIA certified), and have current First Aid certifcates and Working with Children's Check. Calling all cyclists! A Come and Try event is a great way to get a taste for off road bike riding or to try a new discipline. Not to mention have heaps of fun and learn about the local trails and club events in your area. We can help you access trial or monthly membership to ensure that you are covered by insurance. On Sunday 30th October we will meet at Dalton/Daws Rd Carpark for a 9:00am start time. - Junior and parents/carers/family ride (suitable for balance bikes but not for bikes with training wheels). Suitable for beginner riders. - Adults ride, catered for beginner riders. Riders must be self-sufficient with food, water and spares. You must have a well maintained mountain bike and well fitted helmet that meets Australian standards. The Annual General Meeting of the Castlemaine Rocky Riders will be held on Saturday 22 October commencing at 4pm.  We are planning to conduct the meeting in person at the Forest Creek gold mine site, Duke Street, Castlemaine.  With the support of Parks Victoria, this is the site of the Rocky Riders storage shed. Along with the formal business of the AGM, including the election of office bearers, there will be an opportunity for members, families and friends of the Rocky Riders to enjoy a relaxed and sociable afternoon/evening.  Drinks and nibbles will be supplied by the club with soft drinks for children.  Mark the date in your diary, bring the family, and join us at our defacto HQ for a general catch up.  BYO chair and glassware (if required) ... plus any ideas and input you have for the club's activities and plans for 2023. Prior to the meeting, the current Committee members will be assembling for a social ride starting from the Forest Creek gold mine site at 2pm.  Current financial members of the Rocky Riders are welcome to join in and provide their perspective on mountain biking in Castlemaine and surrounds.  If you wish to join this ride please register with a free ticket below.

Our October ride will revisit the tempting trails to be found in the Muckleford Forest.  The trails in this network are generally flowing and less technical in nature, although some newer trails have exploited local geological and Goldfields features.  This ride will explore some recent additions to the trail network. We are planning a ride of approximately 20 km that should take around 2.5 hours. We will likely split into two groups to offer both a faster-paced and a more social-paced journey. Riders with beginner to intermediate skills are welcome but must have a reasonable level of fitness and all riders must be self-sufficient with food, water and spares. We have a no-drop policy, no one will be left behind. The ride will commence at 9:30am at the historic Red White and Blue poppet head on Bells Lane Track.  Head west on the Castlemaine-Maldon Road, turn left into Butchers Road, then right into Muckleford School Road, past Jeralee Boarding Kennels and continue on Bells Lane Track to the intersection with Red White and Blue Track.  There is plenty of parking (but no coffee van). A Rocky Riders (or other AusCycling) membership is recommended so you are covered by insurance while riding. Riders without an Auscycling membership, do so at their own discretion. If you are not in a position to sign up for a full membership the AusCycling 4 Week Free Trial could be an alternative option to cover you or you can take out a Auscycling Lifestyle Membership for the month for $9.00. Castlemaine Rocky Riders are offering MTB skills sessions to our junior riders in the lead up to our Summer Dirt Crits. Gold coin donation.  Starting at 4:45pm. Finishing at 6:00pm. Thursday 13th October 6 to 8 years of age (mixed) 6 to 8 years of age (girls) 9 to 12 years of age (mixed) Thursday 20th October 6 to 8 years of age (mixed) 9 to 12 years of age (mixed) 9 to 12 years of age (girls) Age groups indicated above may be subject to change (registration dependant). If there are no tickets left for your child's age group, please select a "waiting list" ticket and we will be in touch regarding any available spaces. Due to limited numbers we give priority to those who are not already involved in other skills programs e.g. Two Wheel Academy or other squad training. All participants must have a current club membership or be registered for a 4 week free trail through AusCycling. This month we are combining our two social rides - our women's ride and our mixed ride.  We will be joined by FLOW Mountain bike, who will be photographing and videoing the riders to use in their publication, showcasing our wonderful riding trails, our club and the growth of women's participation in our club.  This ride will be led by our women's social ride leaders and our mixed social rides leaders.  Our ride on the 25th September will take in a range of trails while encouraging participation from all, including our junior riders - no one will be left behind.  Assemble at the Theatre Royal in Hargraves Street, Castlemaine for a 9:00 am start time.  We will ride up Forest Creek to the Garfield Water Wheel, explore surrounding areas with the option of riding back to town via Povert Gully.  This ride is targeted at an intermediate skill level due to the length, but will be conducted at a gentle pace.  We will ride for 2.5 - 3 hours.  Please note this is not a skills clinic and riders must be self-sufficient with food, water and spares.  You must have a well maintained mountain bike and well fitted helmet that meets Australian standards. The Women's social ride focuses on creating a supportive, inclusive and encouraging environment, connecting with other women and spending time in our beautiful local surrounds. Teen girls who are confident intermediate mountain bikers are also welcome to join us. On the 28th August our ride will sample the Goldfields Track from the Chewton end. Assemble at the Theatre Royal in Hargraves Street, Castlemaine for a 9:00 am start time. We will ride along Forest Creek to warm up and back along the Goldfields Track. This ride is targeted at a beginner to intermediate skill level, conducted at a gentle pace and have a duration of approximately 1.5 hours. Our August social ride will be held on Sunday 21st and will explore the eastern section of trails in the Walmer State Forest, aka Ken's Trails.  These loops are marked orange and blue and have been used for rounds of the Victorian Enduro series in the 2000s.  The trails showcase the undulating and rocky terrain of our local area, while featuring some epic flow track into isolated gullies.  The ride length will be around 20kms with options to add a few kms for more experienced riders. We will meet at the carpark at the corner of Daws and Dalton Roads, Castlemaine at 9:30am.  Depending on numbers and experience of riders we may be able to break the group into two to cater for a slower paced group.   Either way you can expect a ride of 20 plus kms over some classic singletrack in varied terrain, with a duration of around two and a half hours. We have a no-drop policy, no one will be left behind. A Rocky Riders (or other AusCycling) membership is recommended so you are covered by insurance while riding.
